First I want to wish everyone a Happy Halloween! I love this time of year! Be safe on all of your trick or treating endeavors :)
Also, I wanted to let everyone know that I won another book in a giveaway on GoodReads! I’ve said it once…okay maybe more than once…but you all really should sign up on GoodReads.com. Anyway, here is the information on this new book.
Product Description (Taken from Amazon):
Christopher Jenson just wants to write the great American novel, but he suffers from an infernal case of writer’s block. To make ends meet, he offers loss prevention services as Christina Jenner or Christopher Jenson, depending upon the needs of his clients. As Christina, he assists cheapskate Franklin Benton to unravel a host of mysterious activities in his family business. Desperate for income, he agrees as Christopher to prove Miriam Smithers’ suspicions that her husband, Bob, was murdered. Her shady behavior makes her the prime suspect, particularly when she discloses that she will receive a massive insurance payout if Bob was murdered. Will Christopher/Christina be Miriam’s next victim if she is the killer? His investigations overlap as he scrambles to keep Christina’s identity separate from Christopher’s persona. He might need both identities to save him from a relentless killer.

Mr. Moon’s Nightmares All Day October 28, 2010Posted by Jaidis in Books.

December 10, 2010 has been deemed Mr. Moon’s Nightmares All Day Day by none other than author Jonathan Moon himself! What are Mr. Moon’s Nightmares you may ask? Well let me tell you…
Mr. Moon’s Nightmares is a collection of dark stories written by author Jonathan Moon. There have been many great things said about this collection and I personally can’t wait to get a copy of my own so I can take a peek inside the darkness held within this book’s covers. Here is what some others have to say about this collection…
“I love a good nightmare, and Jonathan Moon never disappoints when he pries his head open to show us all the dark things inside.”
-David Dunwoody, author of EMPIRE and UNBOUND & OTHER TALES
“Mr. Moon’s Nightmares is eminently satisfying. Mr. Moon is a crafter of stories, pure and simple. He knows how to set the mood, give the right amount of ambiance, and then provides an eerie creepiness that immerses the reader in the doom and gloom of each tale.”
-Patrick D’Orazio, author of COMES THE DARK
“Jonathan Moon’s writing grips you with a breathless mix of terror, beauty, and creepiness that is hard to resist.”– Lori Titus, author of GREEN WATER LULLABY and LAZARUS.
“Jonathan Moon weaves stories in fine detail, with a style that ensnares the reader and then scares the living snot of them in straight-shooting, out-and-out, blood and guts staccato. Ride with him and whoop your way to hell.” –Kevin Shamel, author of ROTTEN LITTLE ANIMALS
“Jonathan Moon pulls the sinister from the seemingly innocent. Like a sadistic surgeon of words, Moon takes horror to a new level, slowly slicing our piece of mind until there is nothing left but our raw fear. He’s the only guy I know who can turn ladybugs into harbingers of violent terror. His tales are poetic, dark, and oddly beautiful.” –Jordan Krall, author of SQUID PULP BLUES and FISTFUL OF FEET
Now that you know what others are saying, its time to put Mr. Moon’s Nightmares on your wish list. Here is all you have to do. Jonathan Moon is asking that on December 10, 2010 we all go to Amazon and pick up a copy of his book. Do you already own your own copy of this book? Well you can still help Mr. Moon in his quest for more advertising. If you have already read this collection of stories, please visit Amazon and leave a review so everyone can read what you have to say about it. Also, if you have a blog of your own, please give a shout out to Jonathan Moon and his book and encourage your blog readers to pick up their own copy.
There is also an event on Facebook and on December 10th you can go hang out, chat, meet some cool people and find out more about Jonathan Moon. As an added bonus, Mr. Moon will be giving away some of his favorite independent books of the year! The giveaway will be a pack of nine books including titles by David Dunwoody, ESB, Jordan Krall, Tim Long, Kevin Shamel, T.W. Brown, and Carlton Mellick III! For EVERY copy of Mr. Moon’s Nightmares bought, your name will be entered in a drawing. If you order Mr. Moon’s Nightmares and the forthcoming Houdini Gut Punch, your name will be entered three times in the drawing!
You can attend the event on Facebook Here

Book Review: Blood of a Werewolf October 28, 2010Posted by Jaidis in 5 Tree Reviews, Book Reviews, GoodReads, Jaidis Shaw Reviews.
I recently won my very own signed copy of Blood of a Werewolf by T. Lynne Tolles in a giveaway hosted through GoodReads. I was really excited to win a book that actually sounded interesting!
I sat down and began my journey with Darby O’Reilly last night and was wrapped up in that journey from cover to cover. The characters in this book are well written and have strong personalities which I love to find in books. I felt instantly connected with Darby and her sister Rowan who are witches in the story. I love that this book has aspects of magic through out it and it really made my pagan heart love this book that much more. The perfect amounts of love, romance and flirtation are swirled through out the perfect amounts of hate, anger and frustration to create this beautifully written book.
My only issue with this book isn’t as much of an issue with the book as it is then just a pet peeve of mine, and that comes in the form of grammatical errors. However, this pet peeve of mine has nothing to do with how wonderfully written this book is as grammatical errors are to be expected as they are often overlooked during certain editing stages. I would definitely suggest this book to all of those book lovers out there who are looking for a good vampire love story, sprinkled with magic! It was truly a pleasure for me to read and I will definitely be reading the next books in the series as I am excited as to what happens next! Great job T. Lynne Tolles! Thank you so much for sharing your written words with us!
Please visit T. Lynne Tolles website to learn more about this book and the others she has to offer!

Darby O’Rielly is not your typical girl next door. She and her sister are ancestral witches, but have never been taught the art of their craft in an attempt to have the girls ‘fit in’ to their tiny community. When a dark stranger and his brother enter her life, love blooms and havoc ensues. For these two handsome brothers aren’t just good looking, they are ‘born vampires’ of royal blood and they have hunters hot on their trail. When a Van Helsing wanna-be arrives and threatens Devon and Blake’s immortal lives, Darby unleashes a deadly magic in order to save them. As vengeance for killing his hunter, our villain kidnaps, Rowan, Darby’s sister and injects her with werewolf blood. Darby, Devon and Blake take a redeye to Maine to try and save her. A search then ensues to find a werewolf named Dean who isn’t exceptionally friendly or eager to help friends of vampires. Will Rowan survive her transformation or will the werewolf blood wreak havoc on her body and kill her. You’ll find out when you read this action packed urban fantasy romance novel yourself.

Lazarus by Lori Titus October 21, 2010Posted by Jaidis in Books.

Product Description (Taken from Amazon.com):
The sound of something being dragged grew louder. …The window in the parlor was broken, leaving a gaping hole in the room like an open mouth. The night air was still warm, and the breeze came through, bringing with it a foul odor. He drew back. The smell crept across his skin, into his mouth, contaminating him with the scent of death.
The Dead Shall Walk. The Dead Shall Speak.
The stars were out, and moonlight filtered through the window. The form moved slowly. Square shoulders made thin, angular lines against the shadows, the hat concealing the features of the face. As the figure moved, it dragged across the floor a small, jumbled shape; dust rose from it. He could smell the earthiness of fur…his mind would not accept what his senses shaped before him.
It’s 1869. In the town of Lazarus, California, the dead don’t stay that way.
Luella Pembry comes to town with a secret, and a device. She offers the Sheriff and the Mayor of the town a proposition – give me my own land to build on, and I will destroy the zombies that plague your town.
Sheriff Drake is skeptical at first, but willing to try anything to save his hometown. Together, Luella and Drake set out to solve the mystery behind the Risings that are occurring in Lazarus.
Part old west fable, part ghost story, part zombie adventure, Lazarus is a thriller that grips the reader from beginning to end.

Earth’s Children Series October 17, 2010Posted by Jaidis in Books.

If I had to rate all of the different book series that I have read so far, the Earth’s Children series by Jean M. Auel has to be in my Top 3! These novels are set in prehistoric Europe and explores interactions of Cro-Magnon people with Neanderthals. This series really is a must read! Several years have passed since the release of the last book, and I have been patiently waiting for the sixth and final novel in the series to be released, but everytime I looked for a publication date there wasn’t one released yet. Now I know I may be a little behind schedule, but I checked this morning and found an actual date for the next books release! Yay!! I encourage all of you to go out and read the previous five novels so that you can continue the adventure in March of 2011 with the last book! Below is a list of the novels in this series along with the publication date:
The Clan of the Cave Bear – 1980
The Valley of Horses – 1982
The Mammoth Hunters – 1985
The Plains of Passage – 1990
The Shelters of Stone – 2002
The Land of Painted Caves – Due out on March 29th, 2011
If you have read any of the above books, comment and let me know your thoughts!

Hey All! I’ve decided to start a blog just for my love of books. It will hold posts about books I’ve read and love (or maybe not love at all), new books that I am excited to read, and updates about various authors!
Now I have to go to the dentist in a few minutes to get some wisdom teeth cut out, and of course I will be taking a book along to read while I wait, but I will be getting this blog underway soon.
